Response journal

What is the response journal?

You need to buy a notebook for you to write your ideas in.

We will read articles in the student book over the next 5 weeks. You need to write in your response journal what you think about the articles. You will use the ideas in your response journal to write a critical response later on in the course. This will make up 5% of your reading assessment for the 10 weeks.

Why?

Writing a response journal will help you to develop the habit of thinking and writing in English. It will help you to understand that it is important to write down what you think about something you have read or heard immediately, because many weeks later you might forget! It is also good practice for recording your thoughts and reflections on things in and out of class. This habit is very important in university.

How do I do this?

- Focus on the ideas in the text and discussions - what is the author saying? Why do you think the author is
saying this? What do you think about the ideas?
-Write freely - let your ideas flow. The grammar, spelling and structure of what you write will not be assessed. Relax and let go!
